The past 72 hours has been unsettling for our country. The killing of Black American men & Dallas police officers is something that no one wants to happen. Social media can really make you a nervous wreck.
It’s our news source. Long ago, we used to read the newspaper or watch the morning and evening news to stay abreast. The only thing we have to do now is log on to Facebook or any online media outlet.
I have to be honest and say that I haven’t felt like working this week. I feel as if the sun itself has sucked all of the energy out of my body. It’s almost like I’ve settled in a bowl of leeches. But, I had to regroup. We all have to pick ourselves up and regain our focus.
So, how can we remain calm in the midst of calamity?
1. You’re still alive. You are here to witness these events for a reason. Talk to your children. Look after your family. Determine how you can be a solution to the problem. Being on this side of the ground is still a good thing, embrace it.
2. Control your thoughts. The mindset is powerful. If you feel like there’s no hope then there is no hope. If you think our country will never get better, it won’t. There’s no way to ignore the facts. We should, however, know that positivity leads us to better ends.
3. Step away from the social side. Put the phone down for a few hours. Just do it. Turn your phone off if you have to because notifications will continue. I once went on a social media fast and deleted all of my social media APPs off of my phone.
Remember that anything worth your peace is too costly. At this point, we all have a reason to be upset. Brutal murders have no place in society. Hate can only be driven out by love. The real war is how we think and believe. We have too many hateful people on the world.
Don’t allow yourself to stress out. Find your focus. Hope for better days and determine how you can be a solution in the midst of sadness.
