If you’re active on social media, you know that using hashtags are a must. Some hashtags make absolutely no sense; yet, using the right hashtags in the right manner will boost the exposure of your posts.
Hashtags expand the reach of your posts and help you to get to your target audience. People search hashtags the way we use to search the phone book and yellow pages.
How can hashtags help your business?
1. Brand your event or campaign
Campaign-specific hashtags have now become similar to company tag lines. Your hashtag may be the name of your company, motto, vision, or name of your upcoming event. Hashtags create somewhat of a digital file folder for all posts using the same hashtag. The posts should match the brand of the event, person, or business.
2. Increase engagement & event promotion
Let’s say you’re hosting an event, Womeneur Brunch, attach a hashtag to your event #WomeneurBrunch2016 for example. Use it as you promote your event and let your audience/attendees know the hashtag. Don’t assume that they’ve already seen it. Be sure to emphasize that it’s vital to spell the hashtag correctly. On the day of your event, intentionally have your guests use it on their social media platforms. Offer giveaways for the people with the highest engagement.
Along with that, set aside moment during your event (pending setting and occasion) ask your attendees to take a selfie and post it online using your hashtag. Guess what that is helping you do? Promote yourself and your event!
3. Keep it short and user friendly
There’s no need to create a long hashtag because there’s a chance that people will misspell it. Or, your audience will make the decision not to use the hashtag because it’s too long! Let’s face it – people are lazy when it comes to reading and typing/texting. Your goal is to enhance the social media involvement at your event, so keep your audience in mind.
