We’re twelve days into the new year, and I’ve been facing 2 difficult decisions. I’m a very reflective person. So, I’ve been rethinking my priorities and aligning my daily activities accordingly. Derek Triplett suggests that your passion drives your agenda. He’s absolutely right! Last year, most of my days began at 4:30 am and ended after midnight. It was so taxing on my body. What good are we if we can’t perform at our best?
The world needs us to perform at our maximum in order to do what we’re commissioned to do. This lead me to do some serious soul searching and evaluate everything that I do within a month. I love my Passion Planner because it keeps me organized. But, I was just doing too much! Therefore, I decided to weed some things out and it has served to be a challenge! I’m so attached to everything that I do and I give it my all.
Perhaps you are the same way. You find that you’re always busy. Always on the go. Always tired. Something has to give. So, to ensure that you’re doing what you should be doing, I suggest the following:
- Outline your goals. What are you trying to do within 3 months? 6 months? One year? Your agenda should align with what you are trying to accomplish. If you’re investing time and money toward something that’s not advancing your life, it’s time for it to be deleted from your schedule.
- Write out your plan. Do you go day in and day out with things mentally scribed in your head? Download all of your “to-dos,” ideas, and tasks on paper. You’ll be able to organize everything that you must get done and that which you do not need to do.
- Delegate. Are there some tasks that someone else in your life can help with? Is there a task or chore that your husband can help you with? Is there something that your children can now do for themselves? If you don’t have any dependable people in your life, it may be time to evaluate who’s in your circle.
- Recognize the difference between busy and productive. It’s great to have a busy schedule, but what’s the ‘product’ of your busyness? I hear, “Oh, I was busy!” on a daily basis. That’s great, but if we’re busy just to be busy and no fruit comes from the harvest, we’re wasting time.
I certainly had to make TWO tough decisions in this new year. But, my body and my future will thank me for it! Now, it’s your turn!
Are there some things that you may need to cut out this year? Do you feel like you’re doing too much? Are you read to accomplish your goals and chase your dreams? I’m excited to hear from you. Comment below!
